15 Aug - Great Wolf Lodge

Older brother: This weekend I went to Great Wolf Lodge. They have an awesome water park there. The water park is really big. They have a big bucket there. The bucket holds 1,000 gallons of water (that’s a lot of water). It sometimes dumps.

They have a ride called Howling Tornado. There is a big drop. The drop is about 6 feet high. After the drop you go into a half pipe. The water park is a lot of fun.

They have a game called Magic Quest. You go around the first five floors on a quest. You need to buy a wand and the game to play. It is tiring to run all over the hotel.

After finishing all of the quests you can go on an adventure. You can fight the red dragon on your adventure. The red dragon is hard to beat. I had a lot of fun at Great Wolf Lodge.

16 Jul - Baseball & Dinner

Older brother: I had my friend over. We played a video game with my Mom. My computer started to act weird so we had to stop. After he left I had to go to my baseball game. My uncle and grandma came to watch. After the game I went to have dinner with my grandma, my mom and my uncle. We played Crazy Eight at the table. By the time dinner ended I was cold and ready to go home.

14 Jul - Golden Gardens

Mom: The weather has continued to be fabulous. Warm and sunny but not too hot. As soon as I got home from work I had the boys get on their swim trunks and shirts. I changed as well. We all slathered on sunscreen and headed for the beach.

Rather than play near the large storm drain run off we walked a ways around the beach to the north, past the bathhouse and volleyball courts, until we were out of sight of the main beach. There was a small stream running out from the grass onto the beach. Older brother and I worked on digging out a trench to get the trickle of water all the way to the beach.

13 Jul - Picnic at Park

Older brother: Today I had a picnic. My Dad, my brother and I got there before my Mom did. To pass the time we played on the playground. We made two secret forts. My Mom arrived around half an hour later. We had rotisserie chicken, mac-n-cheese, and snap pea crisps. It was very yummy. Then we went back to the playground for a little. We had a lot of fun.

11 Jul - Grammie's Bday

Older brother: Today when I woke up it was around 8:30am. Later a friend called to see if I could watch the World Cup with him. I said yes. I had to bring a squirt gun. They had two nerf swords there. Me and my friend fought my friend's Dad. Me and my friend always won. SPAIN WON the World Cup!!!!!!!! YAY! I had lots of fun.

Mom: My Mom and I went to a Ballard spa for a massage and pedicure - a perfect joint celebration of our July birthdays. After everyone was back home we ordered Chinese takeout.

10 Jul - Hike at Carkeek

Older brother: Today I went on a hike. I went to Carkeek with two of my friends. We hiked around 5 miles. We had chips and beef jerky for snacks. We hiked on a new trail. We talked about voice command...ALOT! When I got home my Dad was making dinner. I couldn't quite tell what we were having. I knew it would be good though. We were having homemade hamburgers! I had a good time today.

9 Jul - At Home N Baseball

Mom: Realized tonight that we need to go back and post about the last several days. No new post since the 5th! And it seems our blog is turning into more of a journal of the summer versus daily trips outside somewhere.

Today was wonderful in that I was home with the boys. I was busy most of the day with dishes, laundry, picking up and making food for a work colleague with a new baby. Having the two of them playing in the house or in the yard and the occasional book read to little one or chat with older brother kept me smiling. Thanks to both boys for helping me get things done today :)

Older brother had friend over in the afternoon and then in the evening he had his second summer baseball game. Had been in the high 80's two days in a row and so the clouds and breeze of the impending cooler weather was a welcome addition to the end of the game.

5 Jul - Beautiful Sunny Day

Older brother: Today I went over to a friend's house. We played with Air Zone guns. He has two tommy twentys and a set of ten barrel guns. Those are also the guns we used. Unfortunately one of the tommy twentys wasn't charged. His Dad used a two shot gun. It even had fake shells. We fought his Dad outside. I had a blast over at his house.

Mom: Overcast again in the AM but comfortable temp. After breakfast we headed to Discovery Park. Ran into one of younger brother's buddies from co-op preschool as we walked. Petted a lot of cool dogs. Played at the sand pit and enjoyed the view of the water. Younger brother fell asleep on way home.
Older brother went over to a friend's house for the afternoon. I took a lovely nap and awakened to great sun. Got out in the front yard and played and worked on the front garden bed. The boys and Dad braved the freezing cold water of the small inflatable pool. Lots of laughing and splashing.

4 Jul - Chilly Summer Holiday

Mom: Not what you would call Independence Day weather. Overcast and chilly in the AM. Older brother had a pal over in the afternoon then went to friends' with Dad to shoot fireworks. Played a rousing game of Hand and Foot with my Mom, older brother and Dad after younger brother had fallen asleep. Wonderfully lazy day.

Older brother: Today was July 4th. A friend came over to my house and we played with squirt guns. I helped him download World of Warcraft. After, I went to a park to set off some fireworks with my friends. Our favorite was the yellow jacket. Then we watched some other people launch off fireworks. When I got home it was around 9:50pm. I played hand and foot. My dad got first place, my grandma got second place, my mom got third place, and I got last. When I got in bed it was around 12:10am.

3 Jul - Front Yard Pooligans

Older brother: Today I had some friends over. At first we had a water gun fight. After that we fought my Dad in our pool. Next we tried to be king of the pool. It was really hard.

We dried off, we talked. Then my brother wanted us to fight again. Of course we wanted to stay dry, so we said no. We had lots of fun in the water.

2 Jul - New Skateboard

Mom: Once little one was asleep for his nap and Grandma at the table playing solitaire, older brother and I went out and had the most awesome shopping experience ever. In celebration of a great school year we went to a skate shop in Fremont. Older brother picked his deck and the trucks and the wheels and the bearings and all with the an incredibly patient and informative and helpful salesperson. And then they make the board right in front of us!! Absolutely too cool and amazing and fun. A wonderful afternoon.

1 Jul - Art Supplies

Older brother: Today it was rainy, very rainy. We were going to go to Discovery Park but it started to rain. So we went to the store. We needed some art supplies. We got colored pencils, white paper, graph paper, giant floor paper and some poster paints. Outside of the store there was a mechanical horse. It was twenty five cents to ride. My mom had one quarter. It was a tight squeeze because it was hard to fit me and my brother onto the horse.

Mom: The weather late June and early July has been pretty chilly and overcast. We were all ready to head to Discovery Park but it kept raining on us so we decided to do something indoors instead.

Once we were home with our new art supplies the boys spent most of the afternoon playing with them. The youngest painted several pictures with his new floor paper and poster paints and the eldest drew a whole slew of images on his graph paper, coloring them carefully with the colored pencils. Despite the weather we had a wonderful afternoon.

30 Jun - Trip to Airport

Older brother: Today my family didn't have a lot of time to get outdoors so I am writing about our trip to the airport. My dad was coming in from Alabama. We went to pick him up from the airport. We were very happy to see him. Normally my brother was groggy after his nap but we told him that our Dad was coming. That really perked him up.

For dinner that night we went out to eat. I had cinnamon sweet potatoes, banana chips, broccoli, and tenderloin. To drink I had Sprite. My brother had fun running around the restaurant. We are glad to have our dad back home.

29 Jun - Whittier Elementary

Older brother: My mom, my little brother, and me went to my school's playground last night. While my brother played on the woodchip area, I was at the basketball court shooting hoops. Eventually I went over to my brother. When it was time to go my brother ran off. Meanwhile I dropped the basketball to go after my brother.

By the time I got back out off the playground, the ball was at the bottom of the hill and had crossed the street. I went after the runaway ball. After I had gotten the ball across the street my brother rolled the other ball down the hill. Finally we got home with both balls. We had a great time.

Mom: After an early dinner we walked down to the school. Stopped at one of my favorite trees in the neighborhood and took a picture of the two boys underneath it.

Both boys climbed on Snorkel. Eldest shot baskests as youngest talked to everyone there and climbed all over the playground equipment. Lovely, breezy evening in late June.

28 Jun - Carkeek Park Beach

Oldest brother: Today my mom, my brother, and I went to Carkeek Park. We played at the beach a lot. I tried to make a bridge. It was a total failure. After awhile we went up to the playground. They were repainting the salmon slide. It looked more like a shark with a salmon's head. My shoes were wet and covered with sand. I had to walk on the woodchips in bare feet. We had lots of fun.

Mom: We went left of the bridge over the tracks. It was low tide so plenty of beach and rocks and accumulated seaweed. Crab parts were scattered everywhere. At one point you could see the Sounder train on the nearby tracks, a car and passenger ferry out in the water and an airplane flying above. Came home with wet feet and pants legs and soggy, sandy socks and shoes.

Summer Promise

Eldest and myself are going to take pictures from outdoor locations every day this summer and write a little post about each.
